Reggaeton

Updated: Dec 10, 2019

By: Andrew Fessler

Reggaeton originated during the late 1990’s in Puerto Rico. It is a mix between hip hop and Caribbean musical influences. Although it began in the Caribbean, reggaeton has become one of the largest music genres in all of Latin America. Some of the biggest names in reggaeton are J Balvin, Bad Bunny, Maluma, and Ozuna. These are some of the most played artists currently and are responsible for many of my favorite songs. J Balvin and Maluma are just a couple of top artists that were born in South America. Reggaeton has reached an even wider audience in the United States from artists such as: Beyoncé, Cardi B, 6ix9ine, and xxxtentacion. Below is a list of some of my favorite reggaeton artists and songs, I hope you give them a listen and explore the amazing genre that is reggaeton.
