The traditional dress from any culture is, and has always been, beautiful. In addition, when fashionistas alter the traditional dress of a culture, it makes it both modern and something that suites the modern world. This is exactly what fashionistas’ intentions have been. Hirazahid states that “The traditional Aso Ebi style comes from the Nigerian Yoruba culture. Designers have revolutionized this style into long modern maxis and gowns that are used for wedding occasions. “These dresses come in different colors and styles, which makes them attractive to all. A head piece called Gele is also worn to cover the hair and allow the viewers to focus only on the dress, the pattern and the design[ . Although old fashioned, the Gele has been transformed to be youthful and allows anyone to wear it. It has often been paired with western dresses for fashion purposes. Following the trends, another top-rated fashion trend is the Ankara dresses. These dresses have come to be more popular because of the patterns and the fact that it can be worn formally and casually. Let’s not forget about male fashion. The Dashiki is a traditional top that can be worn by men and women, often paired with jeans and boat shoes. Females have also worn Dashiki with leggings and boots in winter. The Dashiki is the only top that is unisex and has been voted timeless by fashionistas.
