Video Game Industry Success in North America

Video games have been popular in North America since the invention of arcades and games like Asteroids, Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, and Mario Bros. However, the success of the video game industry skyrocketed after video games became available for the public to purchase. Since then, it has become a major part of American culture. Its initial popularity is said to have grown due to being the first computerized system made available to everyone; not just businesses and universities. Since then, graphics, systems, and replay value has increased dramatically in such a short time as well therefore, people are constantly kept on the edge of their seats waiting for the newest releases. There are also so many different types of video games that it has become inclusive for everyone. At the beginning of 2019, an eighty-seven-year-old woman named Audrey gained a lot of attention on her grandson’s YouTube channel called "phubans", because of her dedication to a very popular game called Animal Crossing; that a lot of people like for its peaceful nature. The video titled “87-Year-Old Grandma Shows Her 3500+ Hour Animal Crossing Town” has 7.4 million views. It proves that there’s a genre of video game for most everyone and a large portion of people in North America have recognized that.
